Meet Ethan!
Name: Ethan Wall
Age: 38
Athletic Background: High School Basketball and Rowing
CrossFitting for 6 months. First Open
How many times do you workout per week? 3 – 4 I wish I could do more but work has me travelling.
Why did you sign up? Curiosity, motivation, I want to see where I stand and track progress for next year.
What are you expecting out of the Open? I expect it to be fun but humbling like most of my CrossFit workouts. Hopefully it will stretch me past what I thought I could do and I RX one.
Besides training in the gym, have you done anything else to prepare? Watching my diet a little more closely.
Nervous, Anxious, Excited, Dreaming about it, etc? Excited!!
Are you obnoxiously stalking the Games website? Yup
What do you want to see show up in the Open? What’s your best move? A lot of energy. One that I can complete as prescribed. Not pullups.
What’s your worst nightmare of a workout? What’s your weakness? Pullups followed by burpee pullups and anything else that has the word pullup in the work out.
AMRAP, RFT, FGB, Chipper…what’s your flavor? Rounds for time
But seriously, you aren’t going to Regionals, what’s the point? I like competition and to see my progress. It also may help meet some new people at the gym with a common goal/activity.
Favorite past champ or you wouldn’t know a celeb CrossFitter if you saw one? I saw the guy who won it last year on YouTube…Frohmer or something?? (FYI. Best answer ever.)
If you could do a workout with anyone alive or dead, who would it be? My Dad. He passed a couple years ago and I miss our workouts.
What would be your least favorite excuse for not signing up? “ $20.00 for what?” WTF is that?? Disclaimer: I heard that from someone NOT affiliated with CSFQ.
Here’s how the 2014 CrossFit Open will work at CFSQ: The workouts will be announced Thursdays at 8:00pm EST live on the Games website. Tomorrow’s announcement is at CrossFit North Atlanta (Niki, Ben and Kelvin will be there!). Fridays: For the next five weeks, the Open workout will be Friday’s daily workout. You should do the workout on this day if your schedule won’t allow you to come on Saturdays. You can get scored during any of the CrossFit classes by a member judge. You may use this day as practice for your scored performance. Saturdays: This is THE day we throw down as a gym and a community. You should bring your friends, spouses, kids, etc. to cheer you on and see what you have been up to in the gym. We expect everyone, all CFSQ members, to come each week and scream and yell and watch people set PRs. Open workouts start at 10:30am. More serious competitors will be filmed and judged by certified judges. Sundays: The Open can be scored by member judges at 11:00am. If you need to be filmed and judged by a certified judge, please contact us ahead of time. Out of town: If you will be out of town during one of the workouts, drop in to a CF gym where you are going. Call ahead to let them know you’re coming. Most gyms are happy to score your workout. Take a CFSQ shirt with and exchange for one of theirs. Have them take your picture. Enjoy the experience of another gym. Matt M. is doing 14.1 in Milan, Italy! (I suspect his post-Open meal will be better than most of ours.)
The Open is our chance to be part of something big. It is a chance to come out of your shell. There are no wallflowers during the Open. Competitors will cheer on fellow competitors. Kids will see their moms and dads achieving goals. New members will aspire to be stronger than everyone else. Come to the workouts. For five minutes or two hours. Scream as loud as you possibly can. Go out with us afterwards to celebrate. In whatever capacity that you choose, PARTICIPATE.
