Read-Food Is Not a Reward. Fitness Is Not a Punishment from Girls Gone Strong. “Back in my days of obsessive exercising and restrictive dieting, food and fitness were not things that added value to my life—they were factors that controlled it. As someone who closely (and mistakenly) tied her physique to her worth, I’d often find myself on Friday nights desperately binging on cookies, Chinese food, and wine—all because I was “so good” during the week with my calorie counting.”
I’ve seen it in our members and in myself. As your journey in strength and conditioning and eating to perform gets more involved and you become more competitive with other members, coaches and yourself, remember: Your fitness does not determine your worth. It can be a damn hard lesson to learn. The way you react to missing a lift or someone beating you on the clock tends to be a direct reflection of how you value yourself. Let your weaknesses drive you to progress and be supportive of everyone around you. At the end of the day, no one cares if you can do a muscle up. There’s no need to throw a tantrum because your buddy is a little stronger. Be proud that you went to the gym, had a determined attitude and gave yourself the opportunity to move and improve.
