CFSQ Member’s continue to do big things! Do you recognize the gentlemen on the ends? To the left is David Elliott and to the right is Duncan McNeel. They have been out of the gym for a few weeks. Why? They have been training for and competing in several adventure races. This is no muddy obstacle course covering a few miles. The Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race was this past Saturday.
The course of the Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race changes from year to year. Disciplines used in the past are mountain biking, running/trekking, kayaking, canoeing, rappelling, orienteering, wet river crossings and climbing, as well as mystery challenges. The Elite course is approximately 46 miles, designed for a finish time between six to ten hours. The course utilizes the trail system of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Portions of the Benton MacKaye Trail, the Rich Mountain Wildlife Management Area and Aska Adventure Area have been used in the past. For water events, courses have included portions the Toccoa River, Lake Blue Ridge, Cohutta Wildlife area and Ocoee Whitewater Center.
David and Duncan brought in a 1st place finish last month and finished 14th out of the 43 teams that were able to finish in the allotted ten and a half hours. (77 teams started the race. Only 43 finished.) Congratulations, Gentlemen!! Very impressive!!
